Performance and Capabilities
While past versions of the Frontier were offered in both V-6 and four-cylinder setups, there's only one engine available for Nissan's midsized truck right now. That's the perfectly capable 3.8-liter V-6 that delivers 310 horsepower with 281 pound-feet of torque. A low-range gearing 4x4 system is available to add to the mix, and we definitely recommend that for all-weather driving and if you plan on taking on any rough terrains in your Frontier. You'll also have options for either a 6- or 5-foot bed depending on the cab style you select. The new Nissan Frontier is rated for towing up to 6,720 pounds with a max payload rating of 1,610 pounds, both figures that may not match larger, full-sized trucks in terms of capabilities, but offer enough for a smart, everyday pickup to use around town and beyond.
Technology and Safety
Like all our latest new Nissan models, the Frontier is loaded with smart tech. The standard 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with smartphone integration starts you off nicely, giving you easy access to all sorts of connectivity, convenience, and entertainment apps. Higher trims will add amenities like household-style power outlets, special lighting, upgraded audio equipment, a larger touchscreen, wireless mobile device charging, and much more.
On the safety front, forward collision mitigation is the only standard driver assistance feature, and that might be enough for some drivers. With the Technology option package, you'll round out your Frontier with a full suite of safety features, including lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, and adaptive cruise control. In another option package reserved for a higher trim level, you can add a 360-degree parking camera, which is incredibly helpful, even with a smaller, midsized truck like the Frontier that's typically easier to navigate and maneuver compared to larger, full-sized options.
